Ex-Abia Governor Kalu Accuses Political Elite of Fueling Boko Haram Terrorism
Former Abia State governor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has accused members of Nigeria’s political elite of fueling Boko Haram insurgency, claiming terrorism is being used as a tool to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s administration, just as it was during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today program on Monday, Kalu asserted, “The political class is behind Boko Haram. They are using terrorism as a tool to fight Tinubu, just like they did with past administrations.”
When pressed for clarification on who constitutes the “political class,” Kalu pointed to politicians, senior civil servants, and wealthy businesspeople in Nigeria.
He elaborated, “Some of them aren’t after money; they are after power. They want to tear down the system just to grab control, and that is not how power should be acquired.”
Kalu further described the nation’s insecurity as politically motivated, stating that these individuals are not merely seeking financial gain but are aiming to hijack political power.
His comments come shortly after suspected Boko Haram terrorists planted Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State, killing nine people.
Meanwhile, the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi, recently warned that Nigerians are currently living alongside Boko Haram and bandits. Sanusi made this remark during the 60th birthday celebration of former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
