Fatal Accident in Lagos: Commercial Motorcyclist Killed in Collision Involving Two Trucks

A tragic accident occurred on Tuesday night at Mile 2, heading toward Cele, Lagos, claiming the life of a commercial motorcyclist. The incident involved a Mack truck (registration number EPE-516YA), which was carrying a 40ft container, and a second truck loaded with vehicle engines and motorcycles.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed that the crash was caused by a mechanical failure, specifically a brake malfunction in the second truck. This failure led to the truck colliding with the oncoming Mack truck and two motorcycles.

According to LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency received distress calls at 11:48 PM and responded promptly. The Eagle Response Team reached the site by 12:10 AM, where they found debris and vehicles blocking the road.

Preliminary investigations showed that the second truck, transporting vehicle engines, lost its brakes and collided with the Mack truck and the motorcycles. The collision caused the second truck to topple, spilling its cargo across the highway and blocking traffic. Sadly, one of the motorcyclists was killed instantly, while the other managed to escape unharmed.

LASEMA’s team acted quickly to clear the area, implementing traffic diversions and using heavy-duty equipment to remove the spilled cargo. The damaged trucks were towed to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) yard for further handling.
