FCT indigenes fault land allocation, alleged N5m payment for C of O
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) indigenes have urged the minister, Nyesom Wike, to be more transparent in the allocation of land within the area.
Speaking under the aegis of Concerned FCT Citizens And Civil Society Groups, the locals sought investigation of land allocation since the immediate past governor of Rivers State assumed office.
The convener, Daniel Okwa, queried exemption of the FCT Treasury Single Account policy and reported N5 million payment for Certificate of Occupancy (C of O).
He said: “We must hold our public officials accountable and demand transparency and accountability in the management of public resources. We must ensure that our government institutions are working for the benefit of all citizens, not just a select few.
“Contrary to the law and spirit of administering the Federal Capital Territory, there has been discriminatory practices in the allocation of land and employment opportunities. This is a clear violation of the principles of fairness, equity and justice that should guide the allocation of national resources.”
“We believe that this kind of discriminatory behaviour is unacceptable in a country that is striving to build a cohesive and inclusive society. It creates divisions and undermines national unity. It also sends the wrong message to the international community about our commitment to democracy and rule of law.
“As concerned citizens, we call on the relevant authorities to investigate these allegations and take appropriate action.”
