FCT Minister Bans Panteka Markets and Scavenging for Two Weeks
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has imposed a two-week ban on the operation of Panteka markets (used item markets) within the FCT, effective from Tuesday, 14th January 2025.
The announcement was made during a meeting of the FCT Security Council, as disclosed by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, in a post on X. Alongside the ban on Panteka markets, Wike also placed restrictions on scavengers, confining their activities to designated dump sites only.
The minister emphasized that anyone caught vandalizing public infrastructure would face charges of economic sabotage or even attempted murder. The ban is part of ongoing efforts to maintain security and public order within the FCT.
