FCT Police Uncover Shocking Weapons Cache After Shooting Incident

The FCT Police Command has arrested 33-year-old Obinna Nwigwe for allegedly shooting his friend, Andrew Philemon, during a heated argument at Najob Guest House in Bwari on December 26, 2024. The shooting, which left Philemon critically injured, prompted a swift response from police officers after receiving a distress call about gunfire.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered Philemon suffering from a gunshot wound, and Nwigwe, armed with a pump-action rifle, claimed that he shot his friend in self-defense as the argument escalated. Nwigwe was arrested at the scene and taken into custody.

A subsequent search of Nwigwe’s residence revealed an alarming assortment of weapons, including five Dane guns, one English-made single-barrel gun, an AK-47 magazine with 29 rounds of live ammunition, four live cartridges, 17 spent cartridges, a bow with arrows, several knives, a sword-stick, a toy gun, a taser, a bulletproof jacket, and multiple sets of police uniforms and boots.

Philemon, who was rushed to the National Hospital in Abuja, is currently receiving treatment for his injuries. Meanwhile, Nwigwe remains in police custody as investigations continue into the incident.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, condemned the incident, calling it a disturbing case of violent crime. She also highlighted the dangers of illegal firearms, emphasizing that Nwigwe would face the full force of the law. Authorities urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could aid in the fight against crime.

The FCT Police Commissioner, Tunji Disu, also stressed the importance of community involvement in maintaining security, urging citizens to report anything unusual to the police to ensure a safer environment for all. The police remain committed to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring public safety throughout the Federal Capital Territory.
