Prominent human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has declared that the ongoing leadership crisis in the Rivers State House of Assembly, with two speakers in place, is unacceptable and must be immediately addressed.
Speaking yesterday in Lagos at the 21st memorial lecture of the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, Falana voiced his concerns about the political situation in Rivers State. The event took place at the Orunmila Hall of the Lagos Airport Hotel in Ikeja, where the legal luminary emphasized the need for a resolution.
Currently, the Rivers State Assembly is divided, with two factions each claiming the speaker’s seat. One group, aligned with the pro-Wike camp, is led by Martins Amaewhule, while the other faction, loyal to Governor Simmelayi Fubara, is headed by Victor Jumbo. Falana made it clear that such a scenario, where two individuals claim the same position, is untenable and should not be allowed to continue.
