Fresh Forgery Allegations Hit Embattled Labour Party Chairman Julius Abure
Less than 48 hours after his arrest and release by police over alleged forgery in Plateau State, fresh forgery allegations have surfaced against the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure.
In a petition to the police, former LP chairman in Ebonyi State, Splendour Oko-Eze, accused Abure of forging his signature to document where he allegedly resigned as the party’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate. The resignation letter named another aspirant, Edward Nkwegu, as the new candidate.
According to reports, Nkwegu confessed during police investigation that he paid Abure N200 million to secure the Labour Party governorship ticket in Ebonyi.
The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), which handled the investigation, has subsequently recommended Abure’s prosecution for forgery to the Attorney-General of the Federation.
This comes as Abure is already facing criminal charges over similar allegations of forging the signature of an LP governorship aspirant in Plateau State to withdraw from the 2023 primaries.
The cascade of forgery allegations against the embattled LP chairman continues to grow. Earlier, LP rep aspirant in Edo State, Murphy Imasuen, accused Abure of forgery by signing withdrawal papers in his name without consent.
With the FCID indictment, Abure may be facing charges on multiple fronts over the forgery saga rocking the Labour Party under his leadership.
