The political turmoil in Rivers State is set to continue into 2025, as Governor Siminalayi Fubara has made a bold declaration regarding his ongoing battle with his former political ally, Nyesom Wike. Since late 2023, the two have been locked in a fierce power struggle over control of the state’s political structure, and Fubara has vowed that all plans devised by his enemies will ultimately fail.
Speaking at a crossover church service at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Opobo Town, Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, Fubara declared that despite the opposition, the new year would bring no respite for those plotting against him. As the congregation joined him in singing a powerful gallantry hymn—“At the mention of your name, God, every knee shall bow” — the governor underscored that this was not only a message of hope but a reminder to remain steadfast in faith.
He stated that the year ahead will be a time for greater triumph, and emphasized that only God has the power to lead him and the people of Rivers State to victory. Holding up a red biro, Fubara reaffirmed his stance: “The Red Biro is still filled. It is still here with me. Every enemy’s plan will continue to crash,” he declared, making it clear that he will not relent in the face of political opposition.
Fubara’s message serves as both a vow to his political rivals and an encouragement to his supporters as the battle for the state’s political future wages on.
