“Fuel Tragedy Triggers NSCDC Response: Preventing More Losses Along the Guaraka-Kaduna Road”
In the wake of the tragic incident on the Guaraka-Kaduna road, where several lives were lost due to residents scooping fuel from a fallen tanker, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has acted swiftly to prevent further disasters. CSC Babawale Afolabi, the National Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, confirmed that personnel were quickly deployed to the site to prevent additional fire outbreaks and to ensure public safety.
The accident occurred when a tanker carrying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) overturned, prompting local residents to dangerously scoop fuel. This reckless act ultimately led to fatalities. In response, the NSCDC’s Operational and Disaster Response Team, led by Dr. Ahmed Abubakar, the representative of the NSCDC Commandant General, was dispatched to secure the area and prevent further escalation.
Afolabi’s statement revealed that tactical teams were immediately sent to the scene to halt the dangerous fuel scooping and stop any potential hazards from worsening. The NSCDC also collaborated with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to manage traffic and control the crowd, ensuring safety and security in the area.
Philip Ayuba, the Deputy Commandant General (DCG) of Operations, highlighted that the Corps’ swift response was consistent with its core duties, which include disaster mitigation, emergency victim rescue, and the provision of relief to displaced individuals. As of the latest reports, the situation was under control, with NSCDC emergency teams maintaining a vigilant presence.
The NSCDC assured the public of its continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property, reinforcing its preparedness to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
