[FULL LIST] — Chinyere Moneme, Aminu Gadanya, Prof. Chima Ubanyionwu, 54 Other Senior Lawyers Elevated To SAN Rank
The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has approved the elevation of 57 legal practitioners to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), marking a major milestone in the legal profession.
The announcement was made on Thursday in a statement signed by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC, Kabir Eniola Akanbi, Esq., following the Committee’s 169th plenary session held at the Supreme Court Complex, Abuja.
Chaired by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, the LPPC confirmed the elevation after a rigorous selection process that included the dismissal of three petitions found to be lacking in merit.
The SAN title is awarded as a mark of professional excellence to lawyers who have distinguished themselves as courtroom advocates or legal academics.
“All shortlisted conferees must attend and successfully complete the mandatory Pre-Swearing-In Induction Programme,” the LPPC emphasized, warning that any publication of congratulatory messages before the official ceremony could attract sanctions under the 2023 Rules of Professional Conduct and LPPC Guidelines.
The swearing-in ceremony for the new SANs is scheduled to take place on Monday, September 29, 2025.
Among the newly appointed SANs are Theophilus Kolawole Esan, Fedude Zimughan, Emeka Akabogu, Omamuzo Erebe, Godwin Idiagbonya, Achinike William-Wobodo, Shuaibu Magaji Labaran, and academic conferee Professor Chima Josephat Ubanyionwu.
