Former Deputy National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, on Friday strongly condemned the invasion of the party’s national secretariat by thugs, calling it “despicable, horrific, inhuman, and wicked.” He issued a stern warning that unless the PDP unites and holds accountable those responsible for undermining the party, it is headed for disaster in the 2027 elections.
Addressing the media in Lagos, Chief George expressed his outrage over the disturbance caused during the 79th Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting in Abuja. He called the incident sacrilegious, emphasizing that it was completely unacceptable for thugs to be hired to wreak havoc at the party’s headquarters. “What happened on Wednesday is despicable, horrific, inhuman, wicked, and unheard of. The individuals who orchestrated this attack on our Party Secretariat acted shamelessly, and such actions must be condemned by everyone who values democracy,” he declared.
George continued, “Enough of this arrant nonsense. We find ourselves in this crisis due to our own self-inflicted wounds. It’s time to put aside personal ambitions and work together to prevent the PDP from crumbling. Elders in the party must intervene and tell these disruptive characters to calm down. As leaders, we cannot allow anyone to destroy the PDP. It remains the only true national party in Nigeria—unlike the APC, which is nothing more than a patchwork of strange bedfellows.”
On the state of the nation, George also shared his concerns about the economic challenges facing Nigerians, calling on President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action to address the growing frustration across the country. “My message to Tinubu is clear: Nigerians are hungry and angry. As the Commander in Chief and the leader of the economy, it is his responsibility to alleviate the suffering of the people. The policies of this administration are affecting all Nigerians, regardless of political affiliation,” he said.
He added, “When Tinubu assumed office in 2023, a litre of petrol was less than N200, and the Naira was under N800 to a dollar. What are we seeing now? What is the actual economic policy of this administration? Nigerians deserve a clear answer to this pressing question.”
George also voiced his concerns about the larger geopolitical context, warning of potential instability in the region. “With the political unrest spreading through Francophone countries surrounding us and the escalating tensions with France, are we truly prepared to remain stable and strong as a nation? We need to begin this discussion now—waiting too long could be catastrophic.”
The seasoned PDP leader urged leaders at all levels to act swiftly before Nigeria faces even greater challenges.
