Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has hailed the state as a shining example of unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigeria’s diverse ethnic groups.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye Orumogege III, in Gombe on Thursday, Governor Yahaya emphasized that the state has welcomed various ethnic groups who peacefully coexist and contribute to the social fabric of the state.

“There is virtually no Nigerian tribe that is not in Gombe. We have been living happily with them, and in the true spirit of Nigeria, we are one big family, one Nigeria,” Yahaya stated. He further noted that Gombe serves as a model for peaceful cohabitation, stressing that the state’s harmonious environment is a reflection of the values of unity and national integration.

Governor Yahaya also commended the Yoruba community for their significant contributions to the state’s economic growth, highlighting their role in fostering unity among the people.

The Emir of Gombe, Abubakar Shehu-Abubakar III, who was present at the visit, reiterated the longstanding friendship between the Yoruba people from Ogbomoso and the people of Gombe. He emphasized that their relationship has endured for over a century without any communal conflicts, adding that the peaceful coexistence between the groups has been a source of pride for the state.

“We have lived with the Yoruba people for over a century, and there has never been any communal conflict. This legacy of peace is something we are committed to preserving,” the Emir said. He also praised Governor Yahaya for fostering an environment conducive to peace and unity, pledging continued support for the governor’s peace and development initiatives.

Oba Ghandi Olaoye, in his remarks, described Gombe as a prime example of a peaceful society where people of different ethnic backgrounds live harmoniously. He commended Governor Yahaya for his commitment to promoting unity and peaceful coexistence across the state and noted that Gombe’s example should serve as a model for other states in the country.

The visit concluded with a reaffirmation of the strong bond between Gombe and Ogbomoso, with both the Soun of Ogbomoso and the Emir of Gombe pledging to continue working together to maintain the peaceful and united environment in the state.
