Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ordering a decisive clampdown on armed herders and bandits wreaking havoc in Benue and other parts of Nigeria.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Tersoo Kula, and made available to journalists in Makurdi, Governor Alia praised the President for his swift directive to the Chief of Defence Staff and the Inspector General of Police to neutralize security threats and restore safety to the farming communities.
The governor particularly acknowledged President Tinubu’s physical visit to Benue in the wake of the Yelewata massacre, describing it as a morale boost to a grieving people.
“Your presence and your pledge to work closely with us to bring peace have given our people strength and renewed hope,” Alia stated.
He thanked the President for reaffirming his commitment to ending the violence in the state and prioritizing the return of displaced farmers to their ancestral lands.
Alia also extended gratitude to his fellow governors, especially the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) led by Governor Hope Uzodimma, for standing in solidarity with Benue in its time of need.
“Your unified front against terror sends a strong message that the lives and dignity of Nigerians are non-negotiable,” he said.
The governor vowed to continue working with stakeholders at all levels to rebuild shattered communities and ensure the restoration of lasting peace across the state.
