Governor Adeleke Sets Up 100-Member Committee to Resolve Osun Land Disputes

In a bid to address the ongoing land disputes between the Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin communities in Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has constituted an expanded 100-member Land Crisis Resolution Committee. This initiative, revealed by the State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, aims to mediate and bring lasting peace to the regions plagued by land-related conflicts.

The committee will comprise 25 representatives from each of the affected communities — Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin — with an additional 25 members appointed by the state government. The Governor has emphasized the importance of resolving these long-standing land disputes to ensure peace and progress in the region.

The Chairman of the committee will be the Ataoja of Osogbo land, Oba Jimoh Adetunji Olanipekun Larooye, while the Co-Chairman will be Justice Moshood Adekunle Adeigbe, a retired judge and Chairman of the Osun State Boundary Commission. Additionally, several traditional rulers, including the Olokuku of Okuku, Oba Abioye Oyebode, and the Owaloko of Iloko-Ijesha, Oba Akeem Ogungbamgbe, will lend their leadership to the committee.

Other notable members of the panel include senior officials from various security agencies, such as the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Umar Abba Mohammed, and the Osun State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Ayoola Kehinde. The committee will also include representatives from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Amotekun Corps, and the Immigration Service.

In recognition of the critical nature of this assignment, Governor Adeleke has called upon the members of the committee to bring their wealth of experience to bear on resolving the issues at hand. The panel will also include legal representatives from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) branches in Osogbo, Ikirun, Ile Ife, and Ilesha, as well as experts in land matters such as Surveyor General Soladoye Abioye and Dr. Fritz Mobolaji Olaoye, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning.

The governor’s office has expressed its commitment to fostering peace and harmony in the affected communities and facilitating a fair and balanced approach to land issues.
