Governor Aiyedatiwa Urges APC Candidates to Stay Focused and Avoid Overconfidence Ahead of Ondo LG Elections
aiyrAhead of next Saturday’s local government elections in Ondo State, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has cautioned All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates against becoming overconfident. In a meeting held in Akure, the state capital, with APC chairmanship, vice-chairmanship, and councillorship candidates from across the state’s 18 local government areas, Aiyedatiwa emphasized the importance of staying grounded and focused.
He reminded the candidates of the significant progress made during the previous governorship elections, urging them to build on that foundation. “We have set a strong foundation as a party, and it is now up to us to build on it,” Aiyedatiwa said. “This election is not just about winning but about proving that our party remains the leading voice of the people.”
The governor expressed his unwavering support for the candidates but cautioned against complacency. “I urge you to avoid overconfidence. Let us remain focused and strategic in our approach,” Aiyedatiwa added.
Candidates Urged to Demonstrate Dedication and Competence
Aiyedatiwa further encouraged the candidates to demonstrate commitment and competence throughout their campaigns and in their eventual roles. He stressed the importance of sustaining the effective governance already established in the state.
“Show commitment to our party and to the people. Our citizens are watching. They want leaders who will not only represent them well but also deliver on their promises,” the governor said. “Prove your capacity and capability to make a difference at the grassroots level.”
Party Leadership Reminds Candidates of Their Responsibilities
In his welcome address, the State Chairman of the APC, Wngr. Ade Adetimehin, congratulated the candidates on their emergence and reminded them of the heavy responsibility they carried. “This is a defining moment for all of you. You carry the trust and hopes of the party and the people,” Adetimehin said. “Do not disappoint us. Be good ambassadors of the APC, and above all, do not betray the trust reposed in you.”
Adetimehin also urged the candidates to intensify their campaigns at the grassroots level, promoting the party’s agenda of good governance and ensuring they remain connected with the people.
