Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has authorized the release of N2.7 billion to support the allowances of Kebbi State students studying both locally and internationally. The announcement was made by the state’s Commissioner for Higher Education, Alhaji Isah Abubakar-Tunga, during a press briefing on Wednesday in Birnin Kebbi.
Abubakar-Tunga explained that the allocated funds would cover the students’ upkeep, accommodation, and travel expenses across various universities worldwide. Specifically, the state government has approved N117.2 million for 25 Kebbi students studying at universities in Egypt, which will be used for their living expenses and accommodation.
He also revealed that the state government has covered the cost of return tickets for eight Kebbi students who recently graduated from a private university in India, amounting to N14.4 million.
The total disbursement, which exceeds N2.7 billion, will benefit both local and international students, reinforcing the state government’s commitment to the advancement of education.
Abubakar-Tunga expressed his gratitude toward Governor Idris for his continuous efforts in fostering educational development and supporting academic excellence. “The Ministry of Higher Education remains deeply appreciative of His Excellency’s tireless work in promoting both academic and moral excellence in our tertiary institutions,” he remarked.
The commissioner also urged the people of Kebbi State to continue supporting the government’s initiatives, which aim to improve the quality of education and the well-being of students within the state.
