“Governor Otu Unveils Plans for State Airline Revival with Two New Aircraft”
The Cross River State Government has announced plans to enhance its state-owned airline by adding two new aircraft to its fleet in March, aimed at improving transportation options for residents and visitors.
Governor Bassey Otu revealed the development during a press briefing in Calabar on Tuesday, emphasizing that the move is part of a broader strategy to resuscitate the state airline, Calli Air, and to address ongoing travel challenges in the region.
Governor Otu expressed concern over the frequent flight delays and cancellations that have plagued travelers to Cross River, and he promised that these issues would soon be a thing of the past once Calli Air resumes operations. “We have worked on the engines of the other aircraft we have, and we are also in the process of receiving two more by March. Our goal is to have the biggest airline in the country and ultimately solve the Calabar route challenge,” he said.
The governor further outlined plans to expand the airline’s operations beyond Nigeria as part of a broader vision for the state’s transport infrastructure. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to develop the state’s rail system, especially given the current state of federal roads in Cross River.
In addition to improving air travel, Governor Otu said the Obudu cargo and passenger airport was receiving priority attention to provide an alternative option for the flying public. The state is also set to launch a comprehensive transport master policy soon, which would incorporate lessons learned from past administrations.
“We are building on the experiences of our predecessors,” Governor Otu remarked. “They did well, but we are bringing in fresh ideas and modern approaches to ensure that the policies are relevant to today’s needs.”
With these efforts, the governor is optimistic about transforming Cross River’s transportation landscape and boosting the state’s economy.
