Governor Sule Reverses Stance on Tax Reform Bill After Concerns Are Addressed
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has offered an explanation for his sudden change of opinion regarding the controversial tax reforms bill, revealing that his concerns have been addressed to his satisfaction. Sule, who was once a vocal critic of the bill, made the announcement during his appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today programme.
Sule, one of the prominent northern political figures who initially opposed the proposed reforms, explained that his opposition was never to the concept of tax reforms themselves, but to the specific contents of the bill in its initial form. His primary concern was ensuring that the bill underwent thorough discussions and was not passed hastily.
“The main objective was to have the bill further scrutinized and debated before a final decision was made. We wanted to make sure every aspect was carefully considered,” Sule explained.
“Now, I’m speaking differently because the goal we set out to achieve has been accomplished. We wanted more discussion, and that is exactly what has happened. I commend the House of Representatives, especially the Speaker, for their careful handling of the issue,” he added.
Governor Sule further emphasized his satisfaction with the legislative process, noting that the review process has allowed for a deeper analysis of the bill. He praised the House of Representatives for incorporating the concerns raised by himself and other stakeholders, ensuring a more balanced and well-considered approach to the tax reform.
