Governors unable to pay N70K minimum wage told to resign

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has urged governors unable to comply with the newly established ₦70,000 minimum wage to step down.

This call follows the announcement by Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, who revealed his administration’s inability to meet the new wage standard.

Yahaya, who also chairs the Northern Governors’ Forum, expressed doubts about the financial capacity of many states to adhere to the new minimum wage during a discussion with labor leaders, civil society organizations, and traders at the Government House in Gombe.

In response, NLC’s Head of Public Relations, Benson Upah, said that governors unable to fulfill this obligation should resign, as they have a duty to uphold the law.
