Gunmen Kill Prominent Lawyer in Otukpo, Benue State

A young and promising lawyer, Barrister Mike Ofikwu, was tragically shot dead by gunmen in Otukpo town, Benue State, on Wednesday night. Witnesses reported that the incident occurred near his residence on Otukpa Street as he was attempting to enter his house. Two armed assailants reportedly attacked him and fired multiple shots before fleeing the scene.

Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Barrister Ofikwu was pronounced dead on arrival. His untimely death has sparked grief among the legal community and residents of Otukpo, who described him as a committed lawyer and activist.

The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the incident through its spokesperson, SP Catherine Anene. She assured the public that investigations are underway and pledged that justice will be served. “I commiserate with his family and friends and assure them of justice,” Anene stated.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and the police have intensified efforts to apprehend those responsible for this heinous crime.
