Gunmen Kill Prominent PDP Leader and Son in Failed Kidnap Attack in Kwara Village
Gunmen suspected to be bandits have brutally murdered Alhaji Abdullahi Kpotun, a prominent businessman and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ward leader, along with his son, during a failed kidnapping attempt in Lile village, Patigi Local Government Area, Kwara State.
According to an insider who spoke with the press on Wednesday, the attack occurred late Tuesday night when the assailants stormed Kpotun’s residence. The gunmen, however, did not limit their violence to just the family; they reportedly attacked another household nearby, killing at least one more person.
Efforts to get an official response from the Kwara State Police Command have so far been unsuccessful. Ejire-Adeyemi Adetoun, the police spokesperson, has not answered calls or responded to messages seeking comment on the incident.
This attack comes amid escalating violence in the region. On June 3, 2025, coordinated attacks by suspected gunmen in Patigi and neighboring Ndanaku communities led to the deaths of two individuals, including the owner of Biskad Pharmacy in Patigi. The pharmacy owner was reportedly shot while the assailants attempted to abduct her, shortly after the conclusion of Muslim Ishai prayers.
The rising wave of banditry continues to threaten the peace and security of communities in Kwara North Senatorial District, with residents calling for urgent intervention to curb the violence.
