“He Won’t Help Us, and He Shouldn’t”—Saraki Responds to Tinubu’s Jab at PDP
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has responded to President Bola Tinubu’s swipe at opposition parties during his Democracy Day speech, where the president mocked their internal turmoil, saying it was a “pleasure to see them in disarray.”
Speaking at the National Assembly after attending the Democracy Day ceremony, Saraki admitted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is indeed grappling with internal issues, but affirmed that it was their responsibility to resolve them.
“We must take him at his word,” Saraki said, referring to Tinubu’s comment that he’s not trying to create a one-party state.
“He said he’s not going to help us, and that’s fine. We’ll fix our own house.”
President Tinubu, while distancing himself from accusations of engineering defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), said he wouldn’t help the opposition fix their chaos—nor would he stop them.
Saraki, however, struck a conciliatory tone, calling on opposition members to rebuild unity and structure within their camps.
“There’s no pressure anymore. He said he’s for multi-party democracy. So now, we need to get our house in order. That’s what we’re doing—bringing everybody together again.”
Saraki’s comments signal a growing urgency among opposition leaders to regroup and reorganize ahead of future elections.
