How Delta State Government Spent N6.8bn On Purchase Of SUVs In Three Months, N2.8bn On Health, Housing

A review of the Delta State budget performance reports has shown that N6.8billion was spent in three months for purchase of vehicles.

The expenditures were incurred within the first three months of 2024.

According to details on the budget document, the sum of N9.9billion was budgeted for purchase of; 50 Toyota SUVs vehicles, 60 Hilux pick-up, 150 Toyota Corolla and 10 Coaster buses.

Out of the budgeted amount, the state already spent N6.8 billion in the first three months of the year.

The money is more than the state’s capital expenditure for its ministry of energy (N2.8 billion) in the first three months of 2024.

It is also more than the state capital expenditure on its housing sector: N1.8 billion, N16 million for its water resources, N201 million on Trade and Investment, N400.1 million for capital expenditure for the Ministry of primary education, N667.9 million for the Ministry of secondary education.

The money on the vehicles was more than the state capital expenditure on its health sector which stood at N1billion as of the first quarter of 2024.

The total capital expenditure for the sectors above equals N6.8 billion for the first three months of 2024, same as the amount was spent on purchase on vehicles in the first three months of 2024.

The development comes amid economy challenges in Delta and calls for cut to the cost of governance in the country.
