How Yobe High Court Judge, Justice Amina Shehu, Detained Me For delaying the Release of Drug Suspects – NDLEA Lawyer, Bamallah Esq

A lawyer with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Yobe State, Usman Bamallah, has accused a State High Court judge, Justice Amina Shehu, of unlawfully detaining him for six hours after he declined to facilitate the release of some suspects.

In a detailed account, Bamallah stated that Justice Shehu ordered his arrest on September 25th while representing NDLEA in a fundamental rights suit filed by two drug suspects seeking bail. Despite being in time to respond, Bamallah claims Shehu denied him the right to reply and ordered his detention when he challenged the unsigned application.

The lawyer said Shehu falsely accused him of saying she lacked jurisdiction and non-compliance with her orders. Bamallah insisted he made no such statements. The judge then ordered his arrest without citing contempt or allowing him a hearing.

Bamallah revealed he was detained from 11am to 5pm without food, water or prayers. Shehu allegedly agreed to free him only if the NDLEA State Commander surrendered himself or the two suspects were released. With no choice, the agency freed the suspects.

The lawyer contends Shehu acted unconstitutionally, illegally and infringed his rights to life, dignity, liberty and movement. He calls on stakeholders to pursue redress for the wrongful detention without contempt charges or fair hearing.

Bamallah’s detailed account alleges gross misconduct and abuse of office by Justice Shehu in arbitrarily imprisoning him over agency operations. His disturbing experience raises deep concerns about overreach and disregard for due process. The explosive claims warrant an urgent, transparent investigation to uphold judicial integrity.
