Hundreds of SDP Members Defect to PDP in Oyo State Ahead of 2027 Elections
In a significant political shift ahead of the 2027 general elections, hundreds of former members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) have joined the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State.
The defectors were warmly received by John Ogunsola, a PDP member and House of Representatives aspirant, who commended the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde for his impactful initiatives, which he believes have attracted many new members to the party.
Ogunsola expressed his determination to ramp up grassroots support for the PDP as the party prepares for the upcoming elections. He stressed the importance of unity within the party, urging members to embrace the new defectors. “Let us welcome our new members with open arms and work together to drive the state’s progress,” he said.
At the party secretariat, Mukaila Adegbola, the PDP chairman for Oluyole Local Government, congratulated the new members on their decision to join the party. He assured them that the PDP would offer them ample opportunities for growth and fulfillment. “The PDP is a beacon of growth and development for our people, delivering the true dividends of democracy,” Adegbola remarked.
He also credited the success of Governor Makinde’s administration as a key factor in attracting new members, making it easier for Ogunsola to rally former SDP members.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Dauda Hamsat Awayewaserere explained that their decision to join the PDP was driven by their admiration for Governor Makinde’s leadership and achievements. He pledged their full support and loyalty to the PDP, revealing that more former SDP members were expected to join the ruling party soon.
The new members committed to reinforcing the PDP’s presence at both the local government and state levels, vowing to contribute significantly to the party’s future success. “We are dedicated to making the PDP a more powerful force in our community and beyond,” they affirmed.
