I regret some of my social media posts against Trump – Elon Musk
Elon Musk, the world’s richest man and a one-time advisor to Donald Trump, expressed regret on Wednesday over his recent public criticism of the former U.S. president, signaling a potential de-escalation in their bitter fallout last week.
“I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far,” Musk wrote on his platform X (formerly Twitter).
The climbdown comes just days after Trump publicly warned Musk of “serious consequences” should he fund primary challenges against Republicans backing a controversial spending bill currently before Congress.
The high-profile feud erupted after Musk slammed the bill — dubbed Trump’s “big, beautiful” spending package — and hinted at using his political influence and financial muscle to target GOP lawmakers who supported it.
Some anti-bill Republicans reportedly urged Musk to bankroll challengers in upcoming primaries, stoking Trump’s fury.
“He’ll have to pay very serious consequences if he does that,” Trump warned in a weekend interview with NBC News, calling Musk “disrespectful” but offering no detail on the threat.
The public fallout marked a rare rupture between two of the Republican Party’s most influential figures and highlighted growing tensions over fiscal policy and party loyalty ahead of the 2026 midterms.
