ICPC Charges Baba Kudu Mohammed with Forgery in Bid to Secure NIPC Job
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned Baba Kudu Mohammed before the Federal Capital Territory High Court for allegedly forging a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Abuja, as well as a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) exemption certificate.
Mohammed appeared before Honourable Justice A.Y. Shafa at Court No. 45 in Nyanya, facing a four-count charge of forgery. The ICPC accused him of using the forged certificates to apply for a job at the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), intending to deceive the agency into hiring him.
One of the charges read: “That you, Baba Kudu Mohammed, sometime in August 2010, did have in your possession a forged Letter of Exemption from National Service, bearing your name and purportedly issued by the NYSC Directorate Headquarters in Abuja, thus committing an offence under section 368 of the Penal Code Act, Cap 53, Laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2004.”
Mohammed pleaded not guilty to all the charges leveled against him.
The prosecution, led by Mr. Hamza Sani, informed the court that they were ready to proceed with the trial, having two witnesses available to testify in the case.
In response, the defense counsel, M.E. Abubakar, requested bail for Mohammed, a motion the prosecution did not oppose. The court granted bail under specific conditions, and the case was adjourned to March 3, 2025, for the commencement of hearings.
