IGP fumes over extortion, high-handedness by Nigeria police officers

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has expressed concerns over alleged cases of extortion and high-handedness perpetrated by certain members of the Nigeria Police Force.

The IGP made his concerns public while addressing Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, Commissioners of Police, and heads of various formations at the IGP’s Conference with Senior Police Officers held in Abuja.

During his speech, the police boss charged the senior officers with proper supervision of the activities of officers at their various levels across the nation.

He urged them to ensure that the highest standards of professional conduct are maintained by the officers, especially when carrying out their lawful duties.

The IGP also ordered the IGP X-Squad, Monitoring Unit, Complaint Response Unit (CRU), and other disciplinary units to carry out routine checks on the activities of officers.

He also issued a stern warning to officers who use his name to extort money from unsuspecting citizens.
