IGP Races to Benue as 250 Burnt Alive in Herdsmen Massacre

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has arrived in Benue State following a horrific attack in the Yelewata community, Guma Local Government Area, where nearly 250 residents were slaughtered and burnt alive by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

The Nigeria Police Force confirmed the IGP’s arrival in a brief statement shared on its official Facebook page on Monday, announcing that he had “ordered additional deployment of tactical teams” to contain the security crisis that has plunged the state into mourning.

The blood-soaked assault occurred near Makurdi, the state capital, where the attackers stormed the community under the cover of darkness, setting homes ablaze and killing residents indiscriminately.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, hundreds of outraged youths stormed the streets of Makurdi on Sunday, staging a massive protest to demand global attention and urgent action over the wave of violence that continues to ravage Benue communities.

As the death toll mounts and public anger intensifies, pressure is growing on the federal government and security agencies to end what many are now calling a genocide in the Middle Belt.
