Ilaje Obas Reject Ijebu State Proposal, Vow to Preserve Unity
The Ilaje Council of Obas in Ondo State has strongly opposed the proposed creation of Ijebu State, declaring their intent to remain one unified entity. The Obas made it clear that they would not be part of any new state initiatives being discussed to the east or west of Ilaje land.
In a communique issued after a meeting held in Igbokoda, the Council reaffirmed that the Ilaje people will remain indivisible, emphasizing that any changes in administrative boundaries should only result in the creation of more Local Governments within the existing state framework. The communique was signed by the Chairman of the Council, Oba Olusegun Williams Akinyomi, the Amapetu of Mahin.
The Ilaje Obas also expressed concern about the growing security threats in the region. They urged both the Ondo State and Federal Governments to prioritize the safety of their people and warned against territorial claims by Ogun State officials. These claims, especially regarding Irokun, have been unequivocally rejected by the local Obas, they noted.
The communique highlighted their strong commitment to safeguarding Ilaje unity, territory, and culture as integral parts of Nigeria, urging all Ilaje descendants to remain vigilant and steadfast in protecting their inherited land and identity.
