“I’m Chasing Elephants, Not Barking Dogs” — Gov Umo Eno on Dumping PDP for APC
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has broken his silence on his shock defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a strategic leap “in pursuit of an elephant,” unfazed by the noise from “barking dogs.”
Speaking Wednesday in Uyo after returning from the United Nations Ocean Conference in France, Governor Eno said the decision was rooted in the best interests of Akwa Ibom people and aimed at positioning the state for greater development and federal alignment.
“When you’re chasing an elephant, you don’t stop because of barking dogs,” Eno declared.
Dismissing his critics, particularly what he called “non-indigenes interfering in Akwa Ibom matters,” the Governor said:
“I’ve exercised my constitutional right to freedom of association. I am the elected governor of Akwa Ibom State — I know the road without potholes, without traffic jams. That’s why I’ve chosen to take our people on the expressway of development.”
He urged residents to remain focused on unity and progress, assuring that his administration would continue to pursue peace, prosperity, and federal opportunities through his new political platform.
Backing the governor’s move, APC State Chairman Obong Stephen Ntukekpo said:
“Governor Eno is the right leader for this time. Let’s set aside political bickering and rally behind him as he brings more federal dividends to Akwa Ibom.”
With the 2027 political winds beginning to stir, Governor Eno’s bold shift may reshape the balance of power in the South-South — and he seems ready for the road ahead, potholes or not.
