A Catholic Reverend Father is facing severe backlash after allegedly shooting a young boy dead for setting off knockouts within the church premises during the New Year Mass on January 1, 2025, in Amaimo, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State.
The incident has left the local community in a state of shock and mourning, drawing widespread attention on social media. Although the identities of the priest and the deceased remain unverified, eyewitness accounts shared on the Facebook page For The Love Of Anambra reveal that after the boy set off the fireworks, the priest, whose identity has not been disclosed, reportedly picked up a firearm and fatally shot him.
The shocking event has ignited outrage among residents, with many calling for a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Local authorities have confirmed that they are aware of the incident and are conducting a detailed investigation to uncover all the facts.
Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, assured the public that the investigation is underway. “We have launched a detailed investigation to ascertain the remote facts surrounding the incident,” Okoye stated, adding that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
