Imo Elders assert that there should be consequences for the flight ban.
The Imo Elders Council asserts that there should be consequences for the actions of the Organized Labour in Imo State. The group, describing the flight ban and electricity shutdown as unprecedented, emphasizes the need for the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) to engage in dialogue with the government to address outstanding issues.
Addressing the media in Owerri, Senator Chris Anyanwu, a member of the Elders Council, suggests that Ajaero and Labour should come to the roundtable for discussions with the government to resolve the ongoing situation. The assault on NLC President Joe Ajaero had led to the NLC and TUC ordering the shutdown of essential services in Imo State and declaring a nationwide strike.
Anyanwu expresses disapproval of Labour’s actions, which include denying people and businesses access to electricity and air travel. Despite the impact on daily life, she believes there are alternative travel routes for voters participating in the upcoming governorship poll in the state.
Other members of the Imo Elders Council present during the briefing include Cletus Iluomuanya, Mike Okiro, Maurice Iwu, and Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.
