Insecurity threatening food sufficiency in Southern Kaduna – PDP candidate
Sunday Katung, candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Kaduna South senatorial district, says insecurity in the district is threatening sustainable food production.
Mr Katung made the assertion in Zonkwa, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Friday at a meeting with some trade unions.
The Nigeria Union of Teachers, the National Union of Local Governments Employees and some socio-cultural groups from the eight local government areas that make up the senatorial district were in attendance.
He said the rate of attacks in the district had become so worrisome that many had abandoned their farmlands.
He said lack of purposeful leadership in the zone had worsened the security situation, with people resorting to various means to survive.
Mr Katung assured of his readiness to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to tackle insecurity in the area if elected.
He implored the people to allow their experiences of the past to guide them in electing leaders at the forthcoming general elections.
Representatives of the groups and unions listed unemployment, insecurity and lack of mentorship and lack of federal presence as some of the issues they would want the candidate to tackle if elected.
