IPOB Warns President Tinubu Against RUGA Cattle Ranching in South-East
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a stern warning to President Bola Tinubu’s administration, opposing the establishment of cattle ranching or settling schemes, including the RUGA program, in the South-East region of Nigeria.
RUGA, a policy designed to address herder-farmer conflicts, involves creating designated settlements for herders and their cattle. However, IPOB has consistently opposed such initiatives, fearing they could result in the establishment of herdsmen camps disguised as ranches.
In his New Year broadcast, Chika Edoziem, the Head of IPOB’s Directorate of State, reiterated that IPOB had maintained a neutral stance toward Tinubu’s administration since its inception but warned that any attempts to implement RUGA in the region would not be tolerated.
Edoziem specifically addressed Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, urging him to reconsider any plans for RUGA in Enugu. He further cautioned that IPOB would not allow any actions that could destabilize the region, stating, “Biafra land is out of bounds for any cattle ranching or settling scheme.”
Edoziem also warned the Tinubu administration against external pressures to destabilize the South-East under the guise of Fulani ranching. He declared, “The land of Biafra will consume all those who come with the intention of conquering her.”
The message was clear: IPOB will resist any such plans and is prepared to confront the government if necessary, stating that any attempt to proceed with RUGA or cattle settlements would lead to further conflict.
