Ita Enang Slams Udom Emmanuel for Deflecting Corruption Allegations
The Akwa Ibom Police Command has detained a couple, Christiana Ibanga and her boyfriend, Inyene Akpan, in connection with the suspected trafficking of their own child. The pair were arrested for allegedly selling their six-year-old daughter for N450,000.
Police spokeswoman, Timfon John, disclosed the development at a press briefing in Uyo. She revealed that the case was reported by concerned residents and began with an intelligence report on June 15, 2024, which indicated that a woman had taken her child to an undisclosed location.
“On the strength of credible intelligence, our operatives quickly moved into action and apprehended the suspects on January 14 in Abuja,” John stated.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to selling their daughter in May 2024 with the assistance of an accomplice, Saviour Aniedi. Following their arrest, the police expanded their operations and, on January 23, extended their search to Aba, Abia State, in pursuit of the buyer and the missing child.
The police spokeswoman assured that the investigation was progressing and emphasized that the other individuals involved would soon be apprehended.
In addition to this, John noted that the police were intensifying efforts against drug trafficking in the state. She highlighted the arrest of a woman, Happiness George, for allegedly selling Indian hemp and other illicit substances. Two other women, Queen Umoren and Joy Chima, were also arrested at a brothel in Ikot Ebong Village, Odoro Ikot Clan, for possession of illegal drugs.
John cautioned criminals in the state to cease their illegal activities or face the full consequences of the law.
