Jibrin Calls for Urgent Reconciliation Between Kwankwaso and Ganduje
Dr. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the representative for the Kiru/Bebeji constituency in Kano and Chairman of the House Committee on Housing and Habitat, has issued a heartfelt call for an urgent reconciliation between former Governors Rabiu Kwankwaso and Umar Ganduje, urging them to put an end to their ongoing feud for the sake of Kano State’s progress.
In a Thursday interview with Freedom Radio, Jibrin described the rivalry between the two prominent political figures as a significant obstacle to the development of the state. He stressed that the collective effort of well-meaning citizens is crucial to fostering dialogue and restoring unity between Kwankwaso and Ganduje. “We need to come together as a people to reconcile them, as it is the key to Kano’s improvement,” Jibrin emphasized.
Acknowledging Their Legacies: A Call for Unity
While Jibrin acknowledged the deep political differences between the two leaders, he also praised their extensive achievements. He highlighted Kwankwaso’s impressive political journey, from his early days in the Kano State Civil Service to his time as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, a two-term governor, and a prominent figure in national politics as a presidential candidate and potential future leader. Similarly, Jibrin underscored Ganduje’s own illustrious career, which saw him rise from civil servant roles to Commissioner, Deputy Governor, and eventually two-term Governor of Kano State.
“Both men have been blessed with opportunities and positions, which many can only dream of,” Jibrin said. “It is important to recognize these accomplishments, as not everyone is chosen by God for such roles.”
Politics Aside: A Personal Call for Peace
Despite his political alignment with Kwankwaso’s Kwankwasiyya movement, Jibrin took a personal stand on the issue, emphasizing that his appeal for reconciliation transcends political boundaries. “The matter of politics is distinct; it’s their decision,” he said. “But as Muslims, it is our responsibility to unite them and foster peace.”
Jibrin expressed deep disappointment over the ongoing discord, recalling the long-standing friendship between the two leaders. He emphasized that, while political disagreements are inevitable, the welfare of Kano State should always take precedence. “They have been close friends for many years, and seeing them at odds is disheartening,” Jibrin added. “It’s time for both to prioritize unity over division.”
A Vision for a United Kano
Jibrin’s call for reconciliation comes at a critical time for Kano, a state that has been shaped by the political legacies of both Kwankwaso and Ganduje. With both leaders having significantly impacted the state’s political landscape, Jibrin believes that their unity is essential for a brighter future for Kano’s citizens. He urged the two former governors to rise above their differences, for the sake of peace, development, and the prosperity of the state.
