Jigawa State Reports N5 Billion Loss from August 2024 Protests

The Jigawa State Government has revealed that the nationwide protests in August 2024 led to the destruction of properties valued at an estimated N5 billion. This disclosure was made by Barrister Bello Fanini, the Chairman of the fact-finding committee on the protests, during the presentation of the committee’s findings to Governor Umar Namadi at the Council Chambers of the Government House in Dutse on Tuesday evening.

Fanini, who also serves as the state’s Commissioner for Justice, provided details of the extensive damage, which affected federal, state, and local government assets, as well as properties belonging to private individuals. He emphasized the wide-reaching impact of the protests on the state’s infrastructure and economy.

The committee’s report included a series of recommendations aimed at preventing similar incidents from occurring in the future. These recommendations are intended to address the root causes of the unrest and improve the state’s response to such situations.

In his response, Governor Namadi commended the committee for their thorough investigation and dedication to uncovering the full extent of the damage. He assured the committee that the government would carefully review their suggestions and take appropriate actions to safeguard lives and properties across the state. The Governor stressed the importance of maintaining peace and security in Jigawa to avoid further disruptions.
