JUST IN: 12 Jehovah’s Witnesses die in fatal accident in Imo

Twelve members of Jehovah’s Witnesses traveling from Anambra State to Agwa village in Imo State were involved in a ghastly road accident along the Owerri/Onitsha Road, after Njaba Bridge.

The accident which occurred on Sunday at 2100 hours involved a gas tanker truck, registration number T 16716 LA, marked “NUPENG,” which was driving against traffic, and a commuter bus, registration number ABB 79 BX, carrying the church members.

The Imo State Police Command confirmed the accident.

According to the police spokesman, Henry Okoye, 12 people lost their lives—8 adults and 4 children—while 8 others were injured.

He said the deceased were evacuated and deposited at Ogbaku Mortuary, while the injured are receiving treatment at Divine Hospital Awo-Omamma.

He said the police have cleared the wreckage and restored traffic flow, adding that State Police Commissioner CP Aboki Danjuma has expressed condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a quick recovery.

Okoye warned motorists against reckless driving practices, urging all road users to prioritize safety and obey traffic regulations.
