JUST IN: Okada riders protest colleague’s killing in Zamfara
There was tension in Gusau town, the Zamfara State capital on Wednesday as okada riders blocked all roads leading to the town following the killing of one of their members for non-payment of N50 daily dues enforced by the union.
An eyewitness, who gave his name as Mohammed Shehu, told The PUNCH that the okada rider lost his life when he refused to pay the N50 daily dues being collected by the officials of the Motorcycles Riders Association.
Shehu explained that the deceased okada rider refused to pay the money and attempted to run away.
Activities are currently at a standstill in Gusau town as the okada riders who mobilised their members have blocked all the roads, thereby preventing motorists from moving.
Hundreds of motorists were seen stranded while those who attempted to pass have their windscreens smashed by the angry okada riders.
