JUSUN Ends Nationwide Strike, Warns FG to Act Within 30 Days
The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has suspended its nationwide strike just one day after it began, following a crucial meeting with representatives of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
The suspension was announced in a communiqué released after the meeting, which also included the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingyadi, officials from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and other key stakeholders. The communiqué, signed by all parties present, emphasized that the union would allow a one-month window for negotiation and resolution of its demands.
One of the key resolutions reached was that the Federal Government should release funds to the judiciary within the next month. Once the funds are disbursed, JUSUN expects the immediate implementation of its demands.
JUSUN’s demands include:
-
Implementation of the new ₦70,000 minimum wage and its arrears
-
A 25–35% salary increase
-
Payment of a five-month wage award and its arrears
“In light of the commitment shown by the CJN and after careful deliberation, JUSUN has decided to suspend the industrial action,” the communiqué stated.
The union has directed all its members nationwide to resume work on Wednesday, but warned that it will revisit the strike option if agreements are not fulfilled within the one-month deadline.
