Kaduna community seeks military intervention against bandit attacks
Dokan Karji Community in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State has called on the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and the Federal Government to urgently deploy additional military forces to help halt the constant kidnappings and killings carried out by bandits.
In a press statement made available to newsmen on Monday through its youth leader, Aminu Khalid, the community stated that the constant attacks have worsened the insecurity in the region, leaving residents fearful for their lives and prompting many to flee to safer areas.
The community’s appeal follows a series of devastating attacks that have left over 14 villages overrun by bandits.
According to Khalid, the situation has left their communities vulnerable to incessant attacks by bandits for several years.
He explained that Dokan Karji is the largest community in the area, revealing that over 50 people have been killed and more than 170 abducted from April to date, with others still held captive for over six months. In total, over ₦700 million has been paid in ransom.
Once a peaceful farming community, Dokan Karji has now become a hotspot for bandit activity.
“The absence of military protection has emboldened the criminals, leading to frequent kidnappings, killings, and the displacement of hundreds of residents. The recent attack on farmers is a stark reminder of the deteriorating security situation in our area,” Khalid stated.
He added that many families continue to endure tragedies at the hands of these bandits, leading to the loss of loved ones.
He stressed that the community’s only hope for survival is swift action from the military and the Federal Government.
“We appeal to the Chief of Defence Staff to come to the rescue of our endangered communities, who have suffered brutal attacks and constant killings of our kinsmen.”
However, the Dokan Karji community commended the Sector 7 Commander, Lt. Col. Osuake, for his efforts in combating bandit activity in the area.
“Col. Osuake has fought gallantly in trying to restore peace in our communities, and he deserves our commendation at all times,” Khalid added.
