“Kaduna State Government Complies with Court Judgment, Reinstates Chief of Piriga”

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has reinstated Jonathan Paragua Zamuna as the substantive Chief of Piriga Chiefdom in Lere Local Government Area, following a judgment by the Industrial Court in Kaduna. The reinstatement comes after Zamuna was removed from his position by former Governor Nasir El-Rufai just days before his administration ended, following recommendations from the state Ministry of Local Government Affairs.

Zamuna, unhappy with his removal, sought legal redress in the National Industrial Court. On June 14, 2024, the court ruled in his favor, declaring his removal null and void and ordering his reinstatement to the position of Chief of Piriga. The ruling also mandated the restoration of his full entitlements, including salaries, allowances, and other benefits.

Speaking at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Governor Uba Sani emphasized his administration’s commitment to the rule of law, due process, and justice. He congratulated Chief Zamuna on his reinstatement and advised him to treat all individuals in his chiefdom equally, regardless of their ethno-religious background.

“Lessons from the past help us grow stronger and more effective as leaders,” Governor Sani said. “You now have a unique opportunity to serve your people with dedication, courage, and compassion. Our administration stands for the rule of law, and that is why we have swiftly complied with the court’s ruling on your reinstatement.”

In response, Chief Zamuna expressed gratitude to Governor Sani for restoring him to his position. He noted that his chiefdom is home to 12 ethnic nationalities, all of whom live in peace and harmony.
