Kano Anti-Corruption Chief Accused of Disregarding Court Order in Property Confiscation Case
Tahir Ibrahim, the lawyer representing Bala Mohammed, the former Managing Director of the Kano Agricultural Supply Company (KASCO), has accused the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) of ignoring court orders related to the confiscation of his client’s property.
Ibrahim called on the PCACC Chairman, Muhuyi Rimin-Gado, to respect a court ruling that vacated an order allowing the seizure of Mohammed’s assets. The PCACC is currently investigating allegations of financial mismanagement against Mohammed.
Speaking to journalists on Friday, Ibrahim criticized Rimin-Gado’s actions and urged him to comply with the court order that lifted the freeze on Mohammed’s assets, which also mandated the return of his properties. He emphasized that Rimin-Gado does not have the right to confiscate his client’s property, especially after the court’s decision.
“It’s an abuse of court process by Muhuyi to ignore the court order,” Ibrahim said, pointing out that the ruling also directed that all of Mohammed’s bank accounts be unfrozen and the police vacate his company, Limestone Processing Company, with a fine of N3 million as damages.
The lawyer further called on the police to follow the rule of law, stating, “Nobody is above the law. Where there is no rule of law, there will be no peace.”
In response, PCACC Chairman Muhuyi Rimin-Gado accused Ibrahim and a police officer of conspiring to fraudulently obtain the court order in an attempt to block the ongoing investigation into the alleged misappropriation of N4 billion by the former KASCO Managing Director.
“We are not aware of the order. I will not comply with a court order which we are not a party to,” Rimin-Gado stated, rejecting the claims made by Ibrahim.
