“Kano Anti-Corruption Chief Released on Bail After Police Detention in Corruption Case”
The Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, has been released on bail after being detained for several hours by the police on Friday. He was granted bail on self-recognition late that evening after undergoing intense questioning at the Zone One Police Headquarters in Kano.
Rimingado was arrested earlier in the day by a special team from the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP). His lawyer, Usman Umar Fari, confirmed that after three hours of interrogation, Rimingado was instructed to report to the IGP’s office in Abuja on Monday for further questioning.
The arrest appears to be connected to an ongoing corruption case involving Bala Muhammed Inuwa, the former Managing Director of the Kano Agricultural Supply Company Limited (KASCO). Inuwa is accused of diverting over N4 billion in public funds, and his trial, which began in November 2023, has led to the seizure of several properties, including bank funds, pending the court’s verdict.
The legal battle has escalated further. In December 2023, Inuwa filed a suit in the Kano High Court seeking the withdrawal of police officers guarding assets seized during the investigation. Justice Aisha Ya’u ruled in favor of Inuwa, ordering the withdrawal of the officers. However, the PCACC quickly challenged the decision, arguing that it was the primary authority responsible for the seized properties.
The commission has stressed that the confiscated assets, valued at over N2 billion, were moved to a government warehouse in Nasarawa GRA as part of its mandate under Section 40 of the Kano Anti-Corruption Law.
Two weeks ago, Rimingado had publicly revealed that the PCACC had thwarted an attempt to relocate several of the seized assets, which included trailers, trucks, and minivans, further complicating the ongoing case.
As of the time of reporting, efforts to reach Barrister Rimingado for a statement on his arrest were unsuccessful.
