Kano crisis: Deposed Emir Bayero receives district heads in Nasarawa Palace

The deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Bayero, on Monday, received some district heads at the Nassarawa palace.

The district heads were said to have been in the palace to pay homage to Bayero.

Last Friday, the Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf reinstated Muhammadu Sanusi as the Emir of Kano.

Following the action of the state government, Bayero had secured a court injunction stopping Sanusi’s emergence as Emir.

Despite the injunction, the state government installed Sanusi as the Emir of Kano.

Sanusi’s reinstallation as Emir led to agitations and protests across the state by supporters of deposed Emir Bayero.

Displeased, Governor Yusuf immediately ordered Bayero’s arrest for “disturbing the peace”.

The Kano State House of Assembly had amended a 2019 law which was used by Abdullahi Ganduje, Governor of Kano at the time, to depose Sanusi as Emir.

The 2019 legislation had balkanised the emirate into Bichi, Rano, Karaye, Kano and Gaya.

The repealed version sacked the Emirs of all the jurisdictions. However, while all the deposed Emirs have complied with the governor’s directive to vacate their palaces, Bayero has not.
