“Kano Governor Empowers 340 Youths with Livestock and Gardening Tools to Boost Food Security”
Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has launched a significant youth empowerment initiative by distributing bulls, rams, seedlings, and modern gardening tools to 340 recent graduates from the Livestock and Horticulture Institutes. The announcement was made through a statement by the governor’s spokesman, Sanusi Tofa, on Thursday.
As part of his administration’s efforts to combat poverty and foster youth development in the state, Governor Yusuf revealed that each of the graduates would receive either two bulls or two rams, along with a three-month supply of animal feed.
This initiative is an essential aspect of the governor’s strategy to empower young people while bolstering food security in Kano State. Yusuf emphasized that the programme is a clear demonstration of his commitment to both youth empowerment and the long-term prosperity of the state.
The graduates, who completed their training at the Livestock and Horticulture Institute in Bagauda, Bebeji Local Government Area, represent the first cohort of a newly reopened institution under the current administration. Yusuf also shared that a second batch of 340 youths has already been enrolled in the programme, continuing the momentum for empowerment and sustainability.
“The graduates from the Livestock Institute have now embarked on a path that extends beyond personal growth,” the governor said. “They are now integral to achieving food security in Kano State and Nigeria as a whole. Livestock farming is not only a source of nutrition but also a key driver of economic development.”
In addition to their livestock, horticulture graduates received a range of essential tools, including water pumps, sack sprayers, and seed capital of ₦100,000 to support their entrepreneurial ventures. Governor Yusuf encouraged the graduates to form cooperatives and networks that would amplify their collective impact.
He also noted the critical role horticulture plays in sustainability, environmental health, and the creation of attractive, livable spaces. The governor affirmed that his administration will continue to provide resources, mentorship, and market access to ensure the success of the programme’s graduates.
