Kano Police Charge 14 Suspects Over Brutal Killing of DPO Baba Ali

The Kano State Police Command has formally charged 14 individuals with culpable homicide and multiple related offences in connection with the brutal killing of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Rano Division, CSP Baba Ali, which took place two weeks ago.

In a statement released by Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspects face charges including criminal conspiracy, inciting public disturbance, mischief by fire, criminal trespass, causing grievous hurt, and theft.

The accused, residents of Rano Local Government Area, appeared before Magistrate Court No. 20 in Nomansland, Kano. Their names include Bala Yusuf, Bala Mohammed, Abdulrashid Ibrahim, Abdullahi Salisu Kere, Sadiq Buhari, Yunusa Adamu, Musa Minkaila, Mamuda Mohammed, Ismail Mamuda, Usman Shu’aibu, Musa Hassan (aka Black), Abdulrashid Munkail, Umar Ado Nadada, and Sabitu Abubakar.

So far, a total of 29 suspects have been arraigned in relation to the case, including 15 others charged with offences such as criminal conspiracy, inciting public disturbance, and malicious damage.

“The Command is providing ongoing updates on the investigation into the tragic death of CSP Baba Ali, as well as the destruction of public and private property during the unrest in Rano,” Kiyawa said.

He stressed the Police Command’s unwavering commitment to justice, promising that all those responsible will be held accountable.

Kiyawa also expressed appreciation for the prayers, cooperation, and support received from the public and community leaders throughout the investigation.

The Police Command urged the public to remain calm and avoid acts of vigilantism, reassuring that they remain focused on maintaining law and order and protecting the safety of all residents.
