Kebbi Governor Gifts New SUVs To Emirs Amid Economic Hardship

Amid economic hardship and high cost of living in Nigeria, Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi state presented Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles to four first-class emirs.

This gesture, made during a ceremony in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday, the state capital, aims to acknowledge the vital roles emirs play in peace, security, and development within the state.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the traditional rulers who received the vehicles were the Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammadu Iliyasu-Bashar; Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammad-Mera; Emir of Yauri, Dr Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi; and Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Muhammad Sani-Sami.

Idris remarked, “Your Royal Highnesses, my administration recognises the importance of all institutions.”

He noted, “The government has given new vehicles to members of the House of Assembly, commissioners, security services, and chairmen of boards, departments and agencies for optimal operation.”

Addressing the transportation challenges faced by the emirs, he stated, “Today, we are tackling our royal fathers’ transportation problems, because you have been riding in old vehicles.”

Idris acknowledged the contributions of traditional rulers, saying, “Morally speaking, as a government, we know what traditional rulers are doing nationwide in contributing to peace and stability among communities.”

He emphasised the importance of traditional institutions, adding, “We must be alert to our responsibility. We uphold the high esteem of traditional institutions as foundation for social cohesion.”

Idris highlighted the significance of the vehicles, stating, “The vehicles presented to the emirs are the same as the one the governor rides. This is to preserve the sanctity of the royal fathers. Wherever you go with the vehicles, you will be recognised as first-class Emirs from Kebbi.”

He concluded by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to traditional rulers, stating, “We rely on them as problem solvers; traditional institutions are important for societal growth and prosperity.”
