Kebbi Governor Welcomes PDP Defectors, Promises Continued Focus on Education and Development
On Thursday, Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, welcomed key leaders from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and their supporters, who officially joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kalgo, Jega, and Aliero Local Government Areas (LGAs).
In Kalgo LGA, Alhaji Umar Namashaya Diggi led hundreds of his supporters into the APC fold. Similarly, in Jega LGA, Alhaji Atiku Bunu, a former Commissioner of Works, defected with thousands of PDP supporters. In Aliero LGA, Alhaji Abubakar Abba Alieru, younger brother of Senator Muhammadu Adamu Alieru, and former Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Muhammadu Magawata Alieru, joined the APC with a large number of followers.
Governor Idris, speaking through his spokesperson Yahya Sarki, expressed his gratitude to the defectors for their support and commitment to the APC’s vision for Kebbi State.
PDP Leaders Join APC in Kebbi as Governor Nasir Idris Strengthens Political Base
The event saw Alhaji Atiku Bunu of Jega LGA speaking on behalf of the defectors, citing Governor Idris’ remarkable achievements and his unwavering commitment to the development of Kebbi State. Bunu also called for the immediate reopening of the College of Health Technology, Jega, to ensure the academic calendar wasn’t disrupted. Governor Idris swiftly responded, directing the Ministry of Higher Education to reopen the college, reaffirming his administration’s strong focus on advancing education across the state.
“I am committed to ensuring the growth and development of our state, particularly in the education sector,” Governor Idris stated.
Kebbi State Sees Major Defections to APC: Governor Idris Receives Key PDP Leaders
At the event, Professor Khalid Suleiman Jega, Chairman of the Kebbi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), highlighted several key initiatives by Governor Idris in Jega LGA aimed at improving education. These included the construction and renovation of classrooms, the provision of school furniture, installation of boreholes, and the fencing of schools.
In Aliero LGA, Alhaji Muhammadu Magawata Alieru expressed his admiration for Governor Idris’ dedication to the development of the state, especially in improving the welfare of Kebbi residents. Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Alieru assured the governor of their loyalty, adding, “Our return to the APC is not for personal gain, but to contribute to the development of the state under your exemplary leadership.” He further hinted that Senator Muhammadu Adamu Alieru would soon be joining the APC as well.
Governor Idris Acts Swiftly on Education Requests as PDP Defectors Switch Allegiance
Governor Idris’ commitment to social welfare was further recognized when Alhaji Malami Gwandu, Chairman of the Kebbi State Commission for Persons Living with Disability, presented the governor with a Merit Award. Gwandu praised Governor Idris as a “Pillar of Care for Persons with Disabilities,” acknowledging the governor’s outstanding support for vulnerable groups in the state.
As the APC solidifies its position in Kebbi State, Governor Idris remains dedicated to fostering an inclusive and development-driven state, focusing on education, healthcare, and social welfare for all residents.
